On lake time

Are you glued to a phone, computer, tablet or other screen for most of the day? It’s time to take a break, unplug and head outdoors.

Connecting with nature is healing. Ever heard of the phrase “forest bathing?” It means simply being in nature, and it’s getting a lot of attention because of the mental and physical health benefits.

Studies have shown that taking time to unplug and be outside, with no goal beyond just experiencing the world around you, has a positive effect on your well-being. Spending time in nature can improve memory, lower stress, and reduce feelings of depression or anxiety, among other perks.

Being in nature can help clear your head and bring you into the present moment, and is a great way to de-stress and relax.

Recently, I took a few days to unwind, regroup and find inspiration. My ultimate go-to place is the beach, but I live in the mid-west and the closest water view is quite a drive. I thought about an easy 4 hour drive to Lake Michigan. I call the Michigan beaches “the North Coast”. The sands are white and the views are breathtaking.

I only wanted to be away for a few days, so the next water view would need to be a lake view. I got on AirBnB.com and found a gorgeous lake cottage right on the water only a 2 hour drive north west. It was everything, and more, that I needed: gorgeous lake view, firepit, large deck, grill…the works.

The air was crisp for the 2 days I was there, which made morning coffee on the deck taste amazing in the early morning sunshine. The inspiration flowed as my mind and body released the stress they had been holding. I wrapped up the day with a walk along the shoreline and a glass of wine by the firepit. The layers of brick held a low fire that gave off that amazing “camp fire” smell. Ahhh. Live. Love. Lake : )

I hope you enjoy the “Lake Life” decal designs that I have been working on.
